Caleb Tutty

A Kiwi engineer, AI consultant and former data journalist based in Jakarta. By day I help teams design, build and ship AI products. By night — and the occasional gridlocked taxi ride — I hunt for patterns in data.

I came to this from an unconventional path. Starting as a software dev, I then worked as a data journalist at the New Zealand Herald where we won Canon Media Awards for innovation in storytelling — including an investigation that traced KiwiSaver retirement funds to stakes in cluster‑munitions, nuclear‑weapons and tobacco makers, and helped push the industry toward responsible investment. From there I became Westpac’s first data‑science hire in New Zealand, then served as CTO of two startups: Nucon, a construction‑tech AI company in Singapore, and Eskwelabs, a data‑science school in Manila.

This is where I publish the things that don’t fit anywhere else: bespoke D3 experiments, scroll-through stories about Southeast Asian cities, lessons learned shipping LLM features, and the occasional frustrated DevOps note. I’m also open-sourcing a selection of tutorials and workshops — helping give back.
